Albany, N.Y. (WHAM) - Governor Andrew Cuomo has set a date for the special election to fill the 25th District seat for the House of Representatives.

The Democrat issued a proclamation Monday, stating the special election will take place on November 6 - the same day as the general election.

The seat has been open since Rep. Louise Slaughter (D) died in March at the age of 88.

Joe Morelle won the Democratic primary race back in June, setting up a race against his Republican opponent Dr. Jim Maxwell.

The district encompasses all of Monroe County.
