Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - Access to the Lower Falls section of the Genesee River has been closed by RG&E and the City of Rochester until further notice.
The recent cold snaps and quick warm-up temperatures that melt the snow could cause a rapid increase in the Genesee River flow from its spill gates.
The City of Rochester announced Friday that it will temporarily close off public access to the section from Middle Falls to the Veterans Memorial Bridge.
The entrances at the top of Hastings Street and the stairs in Maplewood Park have also been closed off.
Rochester Gas and Electric is installing a temporary dam to help ease the flow of water while upgrades are conducted on the spill gates.
