Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - Aldi appears to be starting the process to add a new location the Rochester's North Winton Village neighborhood.

The proposed property, located at 175 North Winton Road, is the former location of a Tops Friendly Supermarket store.

Representatives from Aldi will propose signage for the new property at an upcoming Zoning Board of Appeals meeting on February 21.

In May 2015, Jim's Restaurant closed in the North Winton neighborhood to make way for the new store. That store never materialized, leaving neighbors feeling cheated and upset.

The Tops store closed down in October 2018 amid bankruptcy proceedings for the company. It was one of five stores to close in the Rochester area.

A media relations representative for Aldi did not offer comment when reached by 13WHAM News.

Loren Flaum, a representative from Flaum Management, said the company is "extremely excited" about the move.

“It will be a tremendous asset to the neighborhood and Rochester community," Flaum said in a statement. "We look forward to working with the city of Rochester and the neighborhood to redevelop and reinvigorate this property.”
