Sodus Point, N.Y. (WHAM) - One person was taken to the hospital after a stabbing in Sodus Point Wednesday afternoon.

Wayne County Sheriff's deputies said this happened around 4:00 p.m. in a "shallow section of water."

According to deputies, a "disturbance" in that area between two people led to one of them being injured in the neck by a "sharp object." Deputies would not clarify what that object was.

The victim was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital to be treated; deputies said that person was conscious while they were being transported.

One suspect was taken into custody. During the investigation, there were two additional arrests - one for disorderly conduct, one for disrupting governmental procedures.

Ozzman Garcia, 24, and Juan DeJesus, 19, were arrested for Disorderly Conduct and Obstruction of Governmental Administration.

The two men are expected to appear in court at a later date.

Jarvis Knight, 24, was also arrested for Disorderly Conduct. He was remanded to the Wayne County Jail.

On July 11, an unofficial celebration called "Blow Off Day" is held, in which the employees at local restaurants and businesses who had to work on the July 4 holiday take the day off and go boating. Organizers said this is in no way related to the celebration.

Sheriff's deputies had been stationed in the area, along with members of other law enforcement agencies, to encourage people to celebrate safely.

Preventing people from driving or boating while intoxicated was one of the primary goals.

"We're doing kind of a joint exercise and trying to enforce the law and make sure everybody has a good time, but making sure they're following the rules at the same time," explained Lt. Matt Ryndock of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.

He estimated about 1,000 people were in attendance Wednesday afternoon.

"Sodus Point is known, with the bay, as far as being a great area to boat, and places and scenery around here, something that people enjoy doing," he said. "We encourage that, but we obviously want people to follow the rules while they enjoy themselves."

Matt Reis, who witnessed the fight from a boat, said the fight seemed to emerge out of nowhere.

"Everybody's having a good time, just having fun, and two guys get into an argument and next thing you know this happens." said Reis.

"Nothing like this has ever happened, they were saying. It's always just a chill day and everyone was having a good time and unfortunately you get a couple bad apples," Reis added.

"The sheriffs did an amazing job," said Reis. "They were right there on the jet ski. They popped him (the victim) on a jet ski. The sheriff put a towel right on his neck and they went right up to the ambulance and got him out of there."

Several other people were arrested for Disorderly Conduct, Boating While Intoxicated, DWI, and Trespassing.
