Brighton, N.Y. (WHAM) - Any federal worker who was furloughed and needs to pay property taxes in the town of Brighton can get a 10-week extension.

On Thursday morning, Brighton Town Supervisor William Moehle and Town Clerk Daniel Aman announced that the town will be moving its deadline for real property tax filings from February 10 to April 26. The extension can be made without interest for anyone filing who was furloughed or not paid during the government shutdown.

The Brighton Town Board is considering opting in on the state program allowing for the extension during its next meeting on February 13.

“I’m pleased that we can offer this tax payment extension,” Aman said. “This is an example of how different levels of government can work together, by easing the financial impact on federal workers who have been caught up in a political impasse.”

Anyone who needs to make payment arrangements should contact Aman at (585) 784-5240.
