Gates, N.Y. (WHAM) - Police in Gates are searching for a man wanted for allegedly tampering with evidence at the scene of a fatal heroin overdose at a motel.
On February 2, officers said Scott Pernesky was with his girlfriend, Jennifer Baker, at the Motel 6 on Buell Road when she overdosed on heroin and died.
Pernesky is accused of wrapping Baker's body in sheets, hiding drugs that were still in the room and leaving her body in the room.
Housekeeping discovered Baker's body a short time later.
Pernesky has a warrant out for his arrest on a felony tampering with evidence charge.
Gates Police want to remind people about the Good Samaritan Law, which helps to protect people from being prosecuted for reporting a drug overdose to police.
Officers say over the weekend, a call came in on the Recovery Now NY hotline from a person who was with a friend who was overdosing. The caller wanted advice on what to do for their overdosing friend and was afraid to call 911, but did not have any Narcan with them.
People with the hotline advised the person to call 911 as they would be protected under the "Good Samaritan Law", which legally protects people who call 911 to report overdoses.
