South Bristol, N.Y. (WHAM) - What is good for the goose is not good for the Golisano.

The South Bristol Board of Assessment Review confirmed Wednesday it will maintain its tax assessment of a $5.7 million property on Canandaigua Lake owned by billionaire and philanthropist Tom Golisano. Town Assessor Valary Muscarella said the decision was made on May 31.

Last month, Golisano appealed the assessment in person in South Bristol, saying the assessment should be lowered because geese are pooping on the lawn. The Paychex co-founder said it made his property unusable for the 12 days a year he spends there.

Golisano said he was adamant that he would continue withholding $140,000 in taxes until his demands are met. He assured the town that he would not allow the property to fall into foreclosure.

Golisano's battle with the town over geese has become part of his fight to lower what he calls “over-assessed property values.”

Last year, he launched a website called Tax My Property Fairly for anyone to use if they wanted to contest the assessment of their property.
