(WHAM) - A statue in Rochester memorializing first responders killed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks has been vandalized - and New York State Police are searching for suspects.

The horse statue holds significance because it was placed in the median of I-490 between the exits for Culver Road and Winton Road.

Red spray paint can be seen along the length of the horse, which stands reared up on its hind legs. The statue had originally been painted red, white, and blue.

New York State Police investigators say they have no timeline for when the statue was vandalized.

No suspects are in custody.

Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to call 911.
