(WHAM) - Firefighters were able to put out a fire at a house in Batavia Thursday morning.

An off-duty firefighter spotted the fire shortly after 8 a.m. on State Street.

After calling in the fire, the firefighter tried to go inside and start sweeping the house, but was unable to go inside due to the heavy smoke and flames inside.

Crews with the City of Batavia Fire Department arrived within two minutes and were able to start extinguishing the flames. Fire was coming out of all four sides of the house at one point, according to Batavia Fire Chief Stefano Napolitano.

No people were inside, but three cats and a dog were found dead after the fire.

Fire officials are still working to track down the owner of the home. There is no word on how the fire may have started.
