Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - The Ibero-American Action League is marking its 50th anniversary in 2018.
The non-profit group works to support Latinos in the Rochester area. The main office on East Main Street was renamed Tuesday morning to the Laurence Tracy Administration Building.
The renaming was a decision by the organization to honor the legacy of Father Tracy's advocacy and support for the Latino community.
A founding member of the organization, Tracy had been a strong advocate for Ibero's mission and its work. He has worked in jails, hospitals, and with migrant populations, among many others.
Several prominent community leaders, including Rochester City Councilwoman Jackie Ortiz, thanked Tracy for his work.
"I thank you and I appreciate you and everything that you have done for out community and what you continue to do and who you are and what you represent for all of us," Ortiz said.
Tracy, who is now 77 years old and has ALS, thanked everyone for their kind words.
