(WHAM) - A Penfield man who worked for an extermination company was arrested Thursday after police said he put cameras into a Gates couple's home.

Gary Stopani, 27, is accused of putting two cameras in the couple's Jordan Avenue house - one in the bathroom and one in the bedroom.

The couple called police on Wednesday after finding what they described as a "cell phone-looking covert camera" in their bedroom. Court documents state Stopani placed the camera underneath a TV in the bedroom facing toward the bed. It had only been placed there for 24 hours when it was discovered, according to police.

According to police, Stopani went into the home multiple times between January and October to change out the SIM card in a second covert camera, which was plugged in in the couple's bathroom.

Stopani is an acquaintance of the family which gave him access to the couple's home. Court documents said he put it there "for his own sexual gratification."

Investigators said Stopani was also employed by an exterminator company and had access to homes and businesses. If you recognize him and would like a law enforcement officer to inspect your home for electronic recording devices, call Gates Police at 911.

Officers arrested Stopani and charged him with second-degree burglary and second-degree unlawful surveillance.

Stopani was arraigned and remanded to the Monroe County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. He is scheduled to be back in Gates Town Court on October 13 at 5 p.m.
