Police: Penn Yan man arrested for rape ran from cops, found with heroin

Penn Yan, N.Y. (WHAM) - A man from Penn Yan was arrested Tuesday night on a warrant for rape.

Officers said Travis Vermilye, 25, raped a person under the age of 17.

Police issued a warrant for his arrest. While executing the warrant, officers spotted Vermilye trying to run away from his house on Stark Avenue.

Officers were able to chase Vermilye down and take him into custody. While being arrested, Vermilye was found to have three baggies of heroin, marijuana and something in which he would smoke the marijuana.

Vermilye was charged with third-degree rape, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana. He is awaiting arraignment in the Yates County Jail.
