Gates, N.Y. (WHAM) - A 15-year-old suspect is in police custody in Gates after officers said he robbed a woman at gunpoint and tried to sexually assault her.
Officers said they were called to the Red Roof Inn on Buell Road around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.
According to police, a woman staying in a second-story room heard a knock at her door and opened it to see who was there. Police said a 15-year-old boy pushed her inside the room and then hit her across the face with a handgun. The teen robbed the woman, taking money from her.
Police said that the suspect tried to make a sexual advance towards her during the robbery. The victim then allegedly ran, got out of an open window and jumped 10-12 feet to the ground.
"She had the wherewithal to use the open window and get herself away from the scene," Gates Police Lt. Rob Long said. "She was able to get out on a little ledge and plop down from the ledge to the concrete where she was able to run to the office for help."
When police arrived, they said the teen was still at the motel, but was attending a party in one of the rooms.
Police checked the victim's story against security camera footage and then made the arrest. Officers charged the teen with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, unlawful imprisonment, and fourth-degree grand larceny.
"Through our investigation, we found out that when he was 14, he had another violent felony arrest involving a hand gun in that case," Long said. "He was on probation and currently is on probation for the previous arrest from last year."
The suspect is being held in the juvenile processing unit.
