Sex offender indicted on 75 counts for alleged rape of elderly Brighton woman

Brighton, N.Y. (WHAM) - A man registered as a violent Level 3 sex offender was indicted on 75 criminal charges in connection with an alleged rape in Brighton.

James Pascalar, 63, was arrested on July 15 after an investigation by Brighton Police officers.

Police said Pascalar had been hired by an 83-year-old woman in Brighton to do work at her home. Pascalar is accused of sexually assaulting the woman.

A Monroe County grand jury indicted Pascalar for sexual contact for endangering an person, endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, two counts of third-degree sexual abuse, third-degree criminal sexual act, three counts of third-degree rape, 34 counts of first-degree identity theft, and 33 counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.

According to police, Pascalar is listed on the New York State Sex Offender Registry as a Level 3 Sex Offender. He is designated as a Sexually Violent Offender and Predicate Sex Offender. He lived in an apartment on Lake Avenue in Rochester.

In October 1996, Pascalar was convicted of raping a 71-year-old woman in Wayne County and was sentenced to 21 years in state prison. The attack was not random, according to New York State Sex Offender Registry records.

Pascalar has been held in the Monroe County Jail with no bail.
