(WHAM) - Tops Friendly Markets plans to add more safety and health measures at all of its stores amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Starting Thursday, front-end checkout registers will have plexiglass shields installed to help create a physical barrier between the cashiers and customers. At store locations such as pharmacies and customer service desks where plexiglass cannot be installed, associates will also be give protective face shields to wear.
Associates working at registers, as well as pharmacies and customer service desks, also have the option to wear the face shields.
Tops said it has already been providing gloves for its associates, along with hand sanitizer and wipes for both associates and customers. Designated "Comfort Zone areas" have been established at the registers to encourage more social distancing between customers and associates.
Associates have also been specifically assigned to sanitizer the front end registers, check stands, conveyor belts, customer service desks, point of sale devices, and other frequently touched surfaces.
If associates have their own fabric or paper face masks and choose to wear them, they are allowed to do so.
These measures will be implemented at all 162 stores in New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont.
