Gates, N.Y./Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - The woman accused of hitting two young children in Gates with her car while recording video behind the wheel has been indicted by a Monroe County grand jury.

Letoya Palmo, 30, has been indicted on nine charges, including two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of second-degree reckless endangerment, and five counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Police say the children - ages 10 months and 2 years at the time of the crash - were hit July 11 when Palmo's car went over a curb and into the parking lot where the children were being pulled in a wagon. The children were dragged about 50 feet and suffered serious injuries.

Police say Palmo initially told them, at the time of the crash, she had turned round to reprimand her children in the backseat. However, police said they later determined she had been recording a sign on her phone.

She has been charged with assault and reckless endangerment.

Last month, Gates Police Chief James VanBrederode said the girl was taken off a ventilator but remains in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. The boy was moved from the Pediatric ICU to a private room.

Donations are still being collected for the children at the Gates Police Department. Checks can be made to Gates Chili Community Connections.
