Woman accused of trying to stab co-worker to death at Elba store

(WHAM) - A woman from Genesee County is being held in jail after State Police said she stabbed a co-worker with a large knife.

Troopers said this happened around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on South Main Street in Elba. According to our news partners at The Batavian, it was inside the Sweet Life Country store, which is run by the owners of Oliver's Candies in Batavia.

Police said Colleen Nelson, 49, came up behind a man who she worked with and started stabbing him with a large knife. The 59-year-old victim was treated for injuries that are considered non life-threatening.

Investigators have not been able to determine a motive.

Nelson was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree attempted assault, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

She was arraigned at Batavia City Court and remanded to Genesee County Jail.
