RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- Xerox Corp. will open a North Carolina technology center employing about 600 people, passing up its current headquarters in Connecticut and former base in Upstate New York for a growing Southern tech cluster.

A North Carolina committee on Tuesday approved state and local incentives that could be worth more than $13 million to choose a site in the Raleigh suburb of Cary. State business recruiters said Xerox also considered its headquarters in Norwalk, Connecticut, and former home in the Rochester, New York, area.

Xerox plans to pay an average of $113,000 a year at its fourth North American tech center as it moves some executives to North Carolina and hires IT specialists locally.

Apple and Amazon last year considered but ultimately passed over the Raleigh area for big tech sites.
