PLANO, Texas (SBG) — A Texas woman gave birth naturally on Wednesday four years after her first child was birthed by her own mother through surrogacy.

A spokesperson for the Medical City Plano Labor and Delivery says giving birth naturally was a "lifelong goal" of 32-year-old Kelly McKissack "despite a serious diagnosis of Methyl Tetrahydrofolate Reductase Mutation and Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome, a genetic blood clotting disease with an autoimmune disorder." Medical officials explain McKissack had to take daily blood thinning injections to sustain a healthy pregnancy.

McKissack's first daughter, Kelcey, was born on January 6, 2016, through surrogacy by McKissack's mother, Tracey Thompson. Both baby girls were born at the Medical City Plano in Texas.

"Mother, baby, big sister and grandmother are all healthy and thrilled. Grandmother Tracey and big sister, Kelsey, welcomed the baby with a special birthday cake & song shared over FaceTime," officials at Medical City Plano and Delivery wrote in a press release.
